RE: What is a "machinist"

Many CNC operators are machinists too. There are skills needed to be able to set up the tooling, to index and offset the tools, to measure and calculate the offsets, etc. I worked for 10 years as a CNC maintenance and repair tech.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

Ice levels fluctuate normally. There have been several recorded instances of the Northwest Passage being free of ice in the past. There are other historical accounts that reference the North Pole being ice free. This year an environmentalist was going to kayak to the North Pole to demonstrate global warming. The pole had been predicted to be ice free. He was stopped 600 miles from it because the ice was too thick to continue. If you can show me a documented instance of any low lying areas actually being submerged because of rising sea levels, I'd like to see it. I've seen many reports but most have been explained by erosion or subsidence. Stressor claimed that parts of Midway are being overflowed by rising seas. Of course when I posted the offical sea level chart taken at Midway that showed less than an inch of sea level rise since 1950, Stressor immediately dismissed it, even though it had been published in a peer reviewed paper in the journal Global And Planetary Change 53. A mind that is only open in one direction is closed half the time.

Why then do you refuse to even read links to peer reviewed papers that provide evidence and findings contrary to your scientific "consensus"? There are hundreds of peer reviewed papers that present findings that global warming is NOT anthropogenic.

RE: Safety Deposit Boxes

Perfectly legal to keep cash in a safety deposit box. Nothing illegal about using more than 10k in cash for any lawful reason. There are forms to fill out however. But the idea that cash in any amount or place is illegal is ludicrous.

RE: a polite NFL thread

Wade said they will see how Tony does in practice this week and make the decision then. All reports are that he threw the ball well, but they don't know h he will handle taking the snap under center of making handoffs.

RE: NFL Week VII

There's no way Romo will get anyone to the playoffs. Ain't gonna happen now or ever. He's a fumbling loser, just look at his record. He's too weak to even suit up. Pathetic lizardman Jones is paying him $45,000,000.00 million dollars to not play. What a joke. The only joke here is you Skid Mark. Yeah, lets look at his record. Since he became the starter for the Cowboys, NO ONE has won more games or thrown more TD passes. He will either play this Sunday or almost surely next Sunday. Every QB gets hurt, almost every QB misses some games throughout their career. The only one who never missed a game was only able to do it because he was a hard core junkie, so addicted to painkillers he would pick them out of his vomit and swallow them again. Yesh thats right, your hero Favre. I guess Marino, Bradhsaw, Staubach, Young, Montana, Aikman and a host of other great quarterbacks were horrible in your opinion. Guess what they all missed games hurt, they all fumbled the ball at inopportune times, they all threw ints. In fact your hero leads the world in turnovers by a QB. Your ignorance shines like a beacon.

RE: NFL Week VII

What about the Steelers? They have won the most super bowls along with Dallas and New England. They played Dallas in two super bowls, winning one and losing one. I read that they now have a larger fan base then Dallas although I cannot find that recent article. The Steelers are very popular in the west and it seems they have more fans then Dallas. Although a super bowl victory might be a long shot this year for the Steelers I believe they have a better chance then Dallas. JMHO of course.. Actually the Steelers have played the Cowboys in 3 Super Bowls, winning 2 and losing 1. They do have a large fan base, but I doubt there are any opposing stadiums where the players ever felt they were playing a home game, like the Cowboys usually feel in Arizona.

RE: NFL Week VII

And yet, they're the most successful NFL franchise in the Super Bowl era! Wow! They must have really owned everybody during the first 30 years to still be tied for the most Super Bowl victories and own the record for the most Super Bowl appearances!!! INCREDIBLE!!! Domination. Most teams have taken more than a decade off at some point in time. . . they just didn't dominate in the interim periods. Don't forget, that even though it has been a while since they won a playoff game, they still hold the record for most playoff wins too. Like you said, they really owned the league for thirty years or so. I guess thats what 20 straight seasons without a losing record with do for a franchise.

I have no idea. The amount of water on the Earth is a constant. I don't know if more or less of it is presently in the state of vapor. I will be away from the computer for a while. Until I get back it was nice talking to you.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

It would be drawn in the inrfared spectrum. Your chart only shows 3 gases, CO2, O2 and water vapor. It confirms that water vapor is by FAR the most effective greenhouse gas. They are not however called greenhouse gases because they absorb sunlight. It is because they absorb the infrared spectrum that is emiited by the earth and re-emit them back. However keep in mind that that re-emitted radiation is equal in all directions.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

It is complicate and AGWers seem to think it is settled and there is nothing more to be learned. Here is a link to an article describing how Earths temperature swings naturally do to regular oscillations of the oceans. There are many historical records going back well over a hundred years that show temperatures rose in the first part of the 20th century dropped agin till the 70's and have risen slightly since then. There are many historical accounts of an ice free Arctic and the Northwest passage has been clear many times in the past. Without a better understanding of the mechanics of the Earths long term climate, any intentional mucking around with it can best be described as reckless.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

And, if you look at the past, rising temperatures were FOLLOWED by rising CO2 levels, not the other way around. In the present we can accurately measure CO2 levels and accurately tie those measurements to a date. How accurately are estimates of past atmospheric CO2 levels tied to a point in time compared to that of recorded temperatures: hours, days, years, decades? In other words, what are the estimated errors on the x-axis (time) of temperature vs. time and atmospheric CO2 levels vs. time plots? If you listen to the AGW advocates their historical measurements are VERY accurate. It was only when someone actually looked at the graphs and found the that CO2 lags temperature increases that now the accuracy of the measurements used to make the graphs has been called into question. Mr. Gores graphs in his movie were produced using sampling from ice cores. He purposely shifted the graphs to make it appear that CO2 rose and then temps went up. That has since been debunked.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

So why are average temperatures in the Gobi desert lower than across IA when both are at the same latitude? Both should have equivalent heating from the ground.. That is an effect of local climate Gases absorb sunlight, become excited rotationally and vibrationally, and the give off heat when relaxing back to their ground state (unexcited)... So you are saying that all gases behave as greenhouse gases? That is not true at all The more gases present (concentration, density of air), the more sunlight is absorbed, the more heat is given off. Also not true The density of the air has some effect on temperature simply because of denser air has a greater heat capacity. However most of the suns radiation passes through the atmosphere, warms the earth and the IR radiation from the earth then warms the atmosphere. There has been no warming of the upper atmosphere for the past 10 years.

RE: Opinion shifting about Global Warming ?

Forgetting the sources of green house gases for now, do you (general you) believe that increasing green house gases lead to increases in air temperature? That question is still being studied. Conventional wisdom says yes. However since the amount of CO2 has been steadily rising and temperatures have not increased over the past ten years, it is debatable. And, if you look at the past, rising temperatures were FOLLOWED by rising CO2 levels, not the other way around. Why is it colder at the Mauna Kea Observatory, Hawaii (14,000 ft) than at the beaches of Hawaii? Warm air rises and the sunlight is more intense (more solar radiation) at higher elevations, so why is it colder at 14,000 ft? Most of the heating of the atmosphere is done by conduction heating from the ground. Farther away from the ground, less conduction.

Yeah, I doubt he develops a drug addiction just so he can play through injury so he can keep some bogus records going.
